The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, established in 1816 by Governor Macquarie, is Australia's oldest scientific institution and a landmark cultural and scientific site in the heart of Sydney.

Initially created to provide fresh produce and medicinal plants for early settlers, the garden evolved into a center for botanical research, conservation, and public enjoyment. It covers 72 hectares featuring diverse precincts such as the Lower Gardens, Palace Gardens, and Bennelong precinct, showcasing a broad collection of native Australian and international plant species.

Renowned for its historic structures, like the Palm Grove established in 1848, the Garden also honors the traditional Gadigal owners of the land through the Cadi Jam Ora – First Encounters Garden. The site includes major design contributions from notable botanists and landscape architects such as Charles Moore and Joseph Maiden, and integrates floral displays, walking paths, ornamental ponds, and expansive lawns.
