It has a rural setting along the Seine and the old Haute-Seine canal, with open fields around the village and a population of roughly 2,900 people. Its best-known landmark is the church of Saint-Lyé, which dates to the 11th and 12th centuries and contains 16th-century stained glass. The commune also has a long history, including a notable royal wedding held there in 1315 in a fortress that no longer survives.
