Schloß Knoppenburg
Raeren, Belgium
Schloß Knoppenburg in Raeren, Belgium, was originally built in the 16th century and was initially known as "the farm on the heath."
About a century later, two distinctive onion-shaped towers were added, giving the castle its current name. The estate was initially owned by the Bertolf von Belven family and passed through several noble families over the centuries, including the Vischer family who expanded the property in the 17th century.
Later in the 18th century, the estate was owned by the de Lassaulx family, who made further renovations to the residential buildings and economic wings.
Today, the castle remains private property under restoration and is not open to the public. The structure reflects a mix of historic architecture with agricultural origins and noble residence expansions, standing as a testament to the region's evolving aristocratic heritage.
