Semur-en-Brionnais is a beautiful medieval village in the Saône-et-Loire department of southern Burgundy and is officially listed among Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (The Most Beautiful Villages of France).

It was once the historic capital of the Brionnais region and is renowned for its rich heritage and picturesque countryside. The village is dominated by the Château Saint-Hugues, a fortified castle dating back to the 10th century. It includes one of the oldest surviving Romanesque keeps in Burgundy and was the birthplace of Saint Hugh of Cluny, one of the most influential religious figures of the Middle Ages.

Another major landmark is the Romanesque Collegiate Church of Saint-Hilaire, built in the 12th century and admired for its elegant architecture and sculpted portal. The village also features historic stone houses, chapels, and narrow streets that preserve its medieval character.
