Snapper Rocks
Australia, Australia
Snapper Rocks is a small, rocky headland on the southern tip of the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, sitting between Rainbow Bay and Point Danger at the northern end of Coolangatta.
It is famous worldwide as the starting point of the long, powerful sand‑bank wave known to surfers as the “Superbank,” which runs for about two kilometres from Snapper down through Rainbow Bay, Greenmount, Coolangatta Beach, and Kirra, delivering fast, hollow waves that attract elite surfers and major events such as the World Surf League’s Quiksilver and Roxy Pro.
The area is not ideal for casual swimming because of strong currents and reef‑like rocks, but it has a man‑made rock pool, scenic viewpoints from the surrounding cliff‑top walk, and coastal parkland that make it a popular spot to watch big‑wave action, picnic, and stroll along the beachfront.
