Verified St Esteve of Andorra Church

Andorra la Vella, Andorra

St. Esteve Church in Andorra la Vella, Andorra, dates to the 11th-12th century as a prime example of Romanesque architecture, featuring Andorra's largest semi-circular apse with Lombard-style blind arches, saw-tooth friezes, and pumice stone roofing over double-slit windows.

Originally simple in stone, it gained Baroque altarpieces, a 12th-century wooden altarpiece, and 13th-century murals (some now in museums), with major 20th-century restorations by architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch adding a remodeled bell tower, side entrance, and new nave in the 1960s.

Serving as the parish church for the co-princes' chapel and a cultural asset, it anchors the old town's entrance with its iconic silhouette blending medieval simplicity and later ornate details amid Pyrenean heritage.
