Sveti Stefan is a small fortified island village on the Adriatic coast in the Budva Municipality of Montenegro, connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway.

It was originally built in the 15th century as a defensive settlement by twelve families to protect against Ottoman and pirate attacks. Over time, it evolved from a fishing village with about 400 inhabitants in the 19th century into an exclusive luxury resort in the mid-20th century, after the Yugoslav government converted it and relocated the residents to the mainland.

The island retains its historic charm with stone houses, narrow alleys, and a fortified wall, all preserved as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, Sveti Stefan is renowned for its elegant hotel and beautiful beaches, blending historical architecture with modern luxury and attracting high-profile international visitors while maintaining its unique Mediterranean ambiance.
