Verified The Heritage Garden

Sevenhill, South Australia, Australia, Australia

The Heritage Garden is a celebrated South Australian rose garden and cottage accommodation located on Gillentown Road (also listed as 12 McCord Lane) in Sevenhill, within the renowned Clare Valley wine region of South Australia.

Created by Walter and Kay Duncan, the garden features approximately 2,000 heritage roses that bloom spectacularly in spring and autumn, with unique charm in every season—summer brings deep greens and repeat-flowering pastels while winter reveals striking bare branches against ancient stone walls.

The site includes a historic 140-year-old Adelaide bluestone cottage meticulously restored from its original location, once home to Agnes and Polly McCord and their brother Jack who grew chrysanthemums in the area, now offering self-contained bed and breakfast accommodation with romantic stone walls, handmade quilts, open fires in winter, air conditioning, and lush rose gardens surrounding an outdoor eating area.

The Heritage Garden is recommended by The Rose Society, won a 2021 Booking.com Travellers Award and the 2004 Clare Valley Tourism Award for most highly commended accommodation, and opens to the public on special open garden days (typically 10 am to 4 pm) with AUD$10 admission for adults and free entry for children under 12, with proceeds supporting the Open Garden Scheme and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
