The Three Cities of Vittoriosa (Birgu), Senglea (Isla), and Cospicua (Bormla) are three historic fortified towns located across the Grand Harbour from Valletta.

Older than Valletta itself, they played a central role in Malta’s maritime and military history and served as the first base of the Order of St. John after its arrival in Malta in 1530. These cities are known for their impressive fortifications, narrow streets, historic churches, waterfront promenades, and well-preserved architecture.

They were crucial during the Great Siege of Malta in 1565 and remain closely connected to the island’s naval and cultural heritage. Today, the Three Cities offer visitors a quieter and more authentic experience than Valletta, with beautiful harbor views, historic landmarks, and a strong local character.
