Thil is a small rural commune in the Ain department of eastern France, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, located about 20 kilometers northeast of Lyon.
With a population of around 1,260 residents, it combines a peaceful village atmosphere with easy access to the Lyon metropolitan area. Situated near the Rhône River and crossed by the Miribel Canal, Thil is often described as a “village of water.”
Its history has been strongly influenced by flooding, with the settlement being relocated more than once over the centuries due to major Rhône floods. Today, Thil is known for its natural setting, including part of the Grand Parc de Miribel-Jonage, as well as its rural character, local community life, and attractive location between countryside and city.
