Torre de Lucano
Monsanto, Portugal, Portugal
Torre de Lucano, also known as the Clock Tower, is a prominent 15th-century medieval tower in Monsanto village, Idanha-a-Nova, central-eastern Portugal, originally serving as a watchtower during the development of the lower borough around the Igreja Matriz from the 15th to 16th centuries.
Featuring a sturdy quadrangular plan with three floors visible across the boulder-strewn settlement, it later functioned as a bell tower (torre sineira) for the Parish Church of Misericórdia and was adapted with a clock mechanism.
Crowned by a forged iron replica of the Silver Rooster trophy awarded in 1938 when Monsanto was named Portugal's "most Portuguese village," it stands as an iconic landmark amid the historic Templar castle ruins nearby.
