Useldange Castle

Useldange, Luxembourg, Luxembourg

Useldange Castle is a medieval castle in the village of Useldange in western Luxembourg that dates back to the 12th century. Originally built as the seat of the local lordship, it played an important defensive and residential role during the Middle Ages and passed through the hands of several noble families over the centuries. The castle suffered significant damage during conflicts in the late 15th century and gradually fell into ruin. Today, visitors can explore its impressive remains, including sections of the outer walls, round towers, a tall central keep, and the former moat. The site overlooks the River Attert and offers a glimpse into Luxembourg’s medieval heritage. Restoration efforts have helped preserve the castle, and part of the complex now serves as the local town hall. It is open to visitors year-round and is known for its accessibility features, including a cultural trail designed for partially sighted guests.
