Vaillac is a small historic village in the Lot department of southwestern France, in the Occitanie region. Since 2016, it has been part of the larger commune of Cœur-de-Causse. The village lies in the scenic Foulon valley and has a very small population, giving it a peaceful rural atmosphere. The village is best known for the Château de Vaillac, an impressive castle overlooking the valley. Built on older foundations and expanded over several centuries, the château remains the area's main landmark and reflects Vaillac’s medieval heritage. Vaillac has a long history that includes periods of prosperity from textile production and events linked to the Hundred Years’ War, during which the village was occupied and damaged. It is also home to the Church of Saint-Julien, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. Today, Vaillac is appreciated for its historic character, beautiful countryside setting within the Causses du Quercy area, and its well-preserved castle and traditional village charm.
