Waroux Castle
Ans, Belgium, Belgium
Waroux Castle in Ans, Belgium, dates back to the 13th century and is one of the rare circular castles in Belgium.
It features a prominent octagonal keep and medieval stone walls made of sandstone and flint, reflecting its original defensive purpose during the long feud between the Waroux and Awans families. Over centuries, it remained the property of the de Waroux family until 1525 and later passed to the De Clerkx de Waroux family until 1925.
Now owned by the municipality of Ans, the castle hosts cultural activities like art exhibitions, concerts, and theater plays. Its austere, feudal appearance and striking spire make it a recognizable historic landmark, offering visitors a vivid experience of medieval architecture combined with contemporary cultural events.
