Gambia
Gambia is the smallest country in mainland Africa, a narrow strip of land surrounded by Senegal except for its Atlantic Ocean coastline. The capital city is Banjul, and the largest urban area is Serrekunda. The country is defined by the Gambia River, along which most of the population lives.
Its population is about 2.4 million, with a rich mix of ethnic groups including Mandinka, Fula, and Wolof. English is the official language due to colonial history, and Islam is the predominant religion.
