Guyana is located on the northern coast of South America, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Brazil, Venezuela, and Suriname. Georgetown is the capital and largest city. The country is often associated with the Caribbean due to its colonial history and membership in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Guyana covers about 215,000 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 800,000 people, making it one of the least densely populated countries in the world. English is the official language. Guyana’s economy historically relied on agriculture and mineral resources such as bauxite and gold.

Since 2015, its economy has been rapidly transformed by the discovery and development of large offshore oil and gas reserves. The population is ethnically and religiously diverse, with major groups including Indo-Guyanese, Afro-Guyanese, and indigenous peoples.
