Kuwait
Kuwait is a small, oil-rich country situated at the northern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by Iraq and Saudi Arabia, with a coastline along the Persian Gulf. Its capital is Kuwait City. As of 2024, the population is about 4.4 to 4.8 million, but less than a third are Kuwaiti citizens; most residents are foreign expatriates.
Arabic is the official language, but English is widely used. Kuwait is a constitutional monarchy with the most open parliamentary system in the Gulf region. The economy is heavily dependent on its vast oil reserves, making it one of the richest countries per capita. The society is conservative, mostly Sunni Muslim, yet distinctive for the powers afforded to its elected parliament, even as the ruling Al-Sabah family retains ultimate authority.
