Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked and mountainous country located in Central Asia, bordered by China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. The capital and largest city is Bishkek. With a population of approximately seven million, most people are Turkic-speaking Muslims. The nation declared independence in 1991 following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
