Nauru
Nauru is the world’s third smallest country by area, located in the southwest Pacific Ocean and covering just 21 square kilometers. It has a population of about 12,300 and no official capital, but government offices are located in the Yaren district.
Almost two-thirds of the population are indigenous Nauruans, and the official languages are Nauruan and English. The island nation once depended heavily on phosphate mining, but most deposits are now depleted. The economy has shifted towards fishing, public services, and foreign aid. Nauru became fully independent from Australia in 1968 and operates as a parliamentary republic.
