State of Palestine
The State of Palestine consists of two geographically separated territories—the West Bank and the Gaza Strip—covering a total area of around 6,020 square kilometers. Its population exceeds 5 million, with the largest city being Gaza City and administrative functions based in Ramallah; Jerusalem is the proclaimed capital.
Most Palestinians are Sunni Muslims, with a small Christian minority, and Palestinian Arabic is the main language. The region’s history has been shaped by centuries of conflict and numerous changes in control, from ancient empires to British Rule, and in the past century, by the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.
Today, Palestine is recognized by over 140 UN member states but remains under partial Israeli military occupation, and its people face many political, economic, and humanitarian challenges.
