Andong Hahoe Folk Village
Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea
Andong Hahoe Folk Village in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, is one of the best-preserved traditional villages in South Korea. Dating back to the Joseon Dynasty, it is renowned for its historic hanok houses, Confucian traditions, clan heritage, and beautiful setting within a bend of the Nakdong River. The village was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010 as part of the Historic Villages of Korea. Unlike a recreated museum village, Andong Hahoe Folk Village is a living community where descendants of the Pungsan Ryu clan still reside. Visitors can explore traditional homes, academies, pavilions, and cultural treasures, while also experiencing famous folk traditions such as the Hahoe Mask Dance. Its combination of history, culture, and scenic natural surroundings makes it one of Korea’s most important heritage destinations.
