Antvorskov slots- og klosterruin, located near Slagelse in Denmark, is the remains of one of the most important religious and royal sites in Danish history.

Founded around 1170 by the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem (the Hospitallers), it became the leading headquarters of the order in Scandinavia and grew into one of the region’s wealthiest and most influential institutions. After the Reformation in 1536, the former monastery passed to the Danish Crown and was transformed into a royal castle.

Several Danish kings used it as a residence, and King Frederick II spent significant time there and died at the site in 1588. Today, the ruins preserve traces of both the medieval monastery and the later royal castle. Set on a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside, the site offers visitors a glimpse into centuries of Danish religious, political, and royal history.
