The Arboretum National des Barres, located in Domaine des Barres near Nogent-sur-Vernisson, France, was originally purchased in 1821 by Philippe André de Vilmorin to study forestry on what was once barren land.

It spans 35 hectares and contains about 2,700 species and varieties of trees and shrubs from all five continents, making it one of Europe's most complete and significant arboreta. The arboretum is divided into three primary collections: geographic, systematic, and ornamental, showcasing impressive specimens such as giant sequoias, ginkgos, and various maples, oaks, and rhododendrons.

It functions not only as a forest nursery and conservation site but also a public garden with walking routes, a tea room, and a nursery for plant sales. Recognized as a Remarkable Garden of France, it is celebrated for its scientific, educational, and recreational value, attracting visitors year-round to enjoy its diverse plant life and beautiful landscapes.​
