Balneario Punta Salinas Beach
Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico
Balneario Punta Salinas is a large, family-friendly public beach located in Toa Baja on Puerto Rico's north coast, just about 20 minutes from San Juan, making it a popular spot for locals and visitors seeking easy access to the ocean.
The beach is situated on a crescent-shaped cove on the west side of a small islet/peninsula, featuring calm, shallow waters that are perfect for swimming, especially within the lifeguard-protected swimming area. The water is typically warm (around 82°F) and mostly calm, though it can be somewhat murky compared to crystal-clear Caribbean beaches, and the sand is a dark beige or pale color rather than pure white.
The beach offers excellent facilities including restrooms, outdoor showers, changing rooms, lifeguards (especially on weekends and during summer), water quality monitoring, basketball hoops, picnic pavilions available for rent, and concession stands for food and drinks during high season. It's a Blue Flag beach, recognizing its environmental quality and safety standards, and the area is also home to manatees and serves as a sea turtle nesting site, offering chances for wildlife sightings.
Entrance costs about $5.00–$5.50 per car for parking, and the beach is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (closed Monday and Tuesday), though it's open on most holidays. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are available, along with beach chairs and umbrellas, making it easy to enjoy water activities and relaxation.
