Big Wave Bay Beach
Hong Kong, China
Big Wave Bay Beach is a small, gazetted beach on the eastern side of Hong Kong Island, located in the Shek O area of the Southern District, near the famous Dragon’s Back hiking trails.
It is about 86 meters long with soft sand and clear water that is rated among the better‑quality recreational beaches in Hong Kong, operated by the city’s Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The beach is especially popular with surfers thanks to its relatively strong and consistent waves, which make it one of the best and most accessible spots in Hong Kong for beginners and intermediate surfers, with board rentals and basic lessons available nearby.
The area also has barbecue pits, public toilets, and a few small cafes, plus prehistoric rock carvings just past the lifeguard station that are thought to be around 3,000 years old, adding a quiet historical note to the seaside outing.
