Boyoma Falls, formerly known as Stanley Falls, is a spectacular series of seven powerful cataracts on the Lualaba River near Kisangani in Tshopo Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Stretching for more than 100 kilometers, the falls have a combined drop of about 61 meters and are considered one of the world’s largest waterfall systems by water volume. At the end of the rapids, the Lualaba River becomes the mighty Congo River. The area is also famous for the traditional fishing techniques of the Wagenya people, who use large basket traps suspended over the rushing waters, making Boyoma Falls both a natural and cultural landmark of the region.
