Brama Polska w Łagowie
Łagów, Poland, Poland
Brama Polska w Łagowie is a Gothic brick town gate in Łagów, western Poland's Lubusz Voivodeship, built in the 15th century on the site of a 14th-century wooden structure as part of the town's fortifications, serving as the eastern entrance from routes to Świebodzin and Poznań—hence its name signifying the Polish direction.
Integrated into the southern defensive walls with a 30-meter-wide moat now forming a canal between Łagowskie and Ciecz lakes, the two-story rectangular building features an pointed-arch passage on the ground floor originally equipped with firing slits rather than windows.
Partially rebuilt and plastered in the 17th century, adapted for housing in the 19th century with added windows, exposed brickwork since 1968, and later renovated for youth hostel then guest rooms by the Polish Angling Association, it stands as a key preserved element of the Knights Hospitaller's castle town's defenses.
