Brandenbourg Castle is a historic medieval fortress ruin located on a hill above the village of Brandenbourg in the municipality of Tandel, northeastern Luxembourg. Its origins date back to the 9th and 10th centuries, when a wooden fort stood on the site, while the stone castle seen today was mainly developed from the 13th century onward. Built in a strategic position overlooking important trade and travel routes, the castle was expanded over the centuries with towers, defensive walls, a chapel, and residential buildings. Although it was once an important stronghold, it gradually declined after the 17th century and eventually became a ruin. Today, visitors can freely explore the remains of the castle, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Éislek region, and learn about its history through information panels on site. The castle is one of Luxembourg’s most impressive medieval ruins and offers a glimpse into the country’s rich heritage.
