The Calgary Zoo, established in 1929, is one of Canada’s oldest and most beloved zoos, situated on 125 acres on St. George's Island in Calgary, Alberta.

It began with a small collection of local animals and has grown to house over 1,000 animals representing 272 species across several themed zones, including Destination Africa, Wild Canada, Penguin Plunge, and Prehistoric Park. The zoo is highly regarded for its conservation efforts, scientific research, and environmental education while being a popular attraction for both locals and tourists.

It has endured challenges such as the 2013 floods, which caused damage and temporary closures, but has continuously improved animal care and facilities since then. The Calgary Zoo operates as a registered charity and under the Wilder Institute, focusing on innovation in wildlife conservation globally, and it remains a vibrant, family-friendly destination with seasonal events like ZOOLIGHTS.
