Castle Chamerolles
Chilleurs-aux-Bois, France, France
Castle Chamerolles (Château de Chamerolles) is a beautiful Renaissance-era château located in Chilleurs-aux-Bois in the Loiret department of the Centre-Val de Loire region of France.
Built around 1520 by Lancelot I du Lac on the site of an older fortified residence, it combines the appearance of a medieval fortress, complete with moats and towers, with the elegance and comfort of a Renaissance country estate. The château has a rich history spanning more than six centuries and was influenced by major events such as the French Wars of Religion, the French Revolution, and the two World Wars.
After periods of decline and damage, it underwent extensive restoration and is now preserved by the Loiret Department. Today, Castle Chamerolles is especially known for its Museum of Perfume, which explores the history and development of fragrances from the Renaissance onward. Visitors can also enjoy its carefully recreated Renaissance gardens, rose collections, parkland, and surrounding water features, making it both a cultural and scenic destination.
Situated near the Forest of Orléans, the château offers a glimpse into French aristocratic life, architecture, and garden design while providing a peaceful setting for visitors interested in history, heritage, and the art of perfume.
