Castle Kapitanowo. Foundation
Ścinawka Średnia, Poland, Poland
Castle Kapitanowo in Ścinawka Średnia, Poland, began as a mid-14th-century defensive-residential tower (donżon) built by the von Czechau family, later expanded in the late 15th century with an additional residential tower and enclosed courtyard.
Renaissance wings were added in the 16th and early 17th centuries by the von Stillfried family, including a grand eastern building and a free-standing Gothic kitchen, with further Baroque decorative changes around 1660 and 1730 by the von Götzen owners.
Used continuously until the 1990s as a state farm after 1945, it was then abandoned and deteriorated, but private owners now conduct renovations and open it to tourists, preserving its multi-phase medieval-to-Baroque character amid the Kłodzko Valley.
