Castle ruins in Kurzętnik
Kurzętnik, Poland, Poland
Castle ruins in Kurzętnik, Poland, are remnants of a large 14th-century Teutonic stone fortress built around 1331-1361 by the Knights near a strategic Drwęca River ford, measuring 110m by 42m with granite lower walls, brick uppers, a chapel, and trapezoidal courtyard.
Heavily damaged in 1414 during the Polish-Teutonic Hunger War when Polish forces captured and burned it despite surrender, then seized by mercenaries for the Teutonics in 1454 amid the Thirteen Years' War, it passed to Poland in 1466 before Swedish Deluge destruction in 1656.
By the 19th century, the decayed structure was quarried for building materials, leaving today only outer walls, foundations, and traces of its quadrilateral form overlooking the river valley.
