Centrum Kultury Zamek w Nowem
Nowe, Poland, Poland
Centrum Kultury Zamek w Nowem is a cultural center housed in the preserved Gothic wing of a 14th-century Teutonic Knights' castle in Nowe, northern Poland's Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, near the Vistula River.
Built in the mid-1300s as a small commandry residence with utility rooms, chapel, and dining hall integrated into town defenses, it served Pomeranian castellans until Swedish destruction during the 1655 Deluge, followed by partial Prussian dismantling in 1787 and conversion of the main wing into a Protestant church.
Renovated from the 1970s to 1992 after uses as a warehouse and fire station, it now hosts events, medieval reenactments, early music concerts, and a café with escarpment views, retaining Gothic frescoes in window niches.
