Château-Chervix
France, France
The Château de Châlucet is an impressive medieval castle ruin located in Saint-Jean-Ligoure, about 10 kilometers south of Limoges in the Haute-Vienne department of France.
Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, it stands on a rocky site overlooking the meeting point of the Briance and Ligoure rivers. Once one of the largest fortified castles in the Limousin region, Châlucet played an important role in medieval power struggles and was involved in both the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of Religion.
The site includes the remains of two castle complexes, known as Upper and Lower Châlucet, as well as the historic Tour Jeannette keep. Today, the restored ruins are a protected historic monument and a popular attraction for visitors interested in history, architecture, and nature. Surrounded by forests and walking trails, the site offers beautiful views and a fascinating glimpse into France’s medieval past.
