Château de Branzac
Pleaux, France
Château de Branzac is a ruined castle from the 15th century located in Pleaux, France, in the Cantal region. Originally built as a manor house or hunting lodge, it has a long rectangular structure with four floors and two rooms on each floor, featuring a central tower with a staircase and two round corner towers on the opposite side.
The castle was richly decorated with frescoes painted by Italians in 1575, later supplemented with lighter-themed scenes around 1610. It was partially destroyed when one of the corner towers was demolished using dynamite to provide materials for building a nearby railway viaduct, leaving it today as a picturesque ruin overlooking the Maronne valley.
Château de Branzac is privately owned and has been listed as a historic monument by the French Ministry of Culture since 1921.
