Château de Buchenek
Soultz-Haut-Rhin, France
Château de Buchenek is a castle in Soultz-Haut-Rhin, France, dating back to the second half of the 13th century with records mentioning it as early as 1251. The castle's lower level, featuring a rectangular plan, likely originates from this initial period.
It underwent significant alterations in the 14th century and again in the 16th century, including the addition of a staircase tower. After being restored following the Thirty Years' War, the castle was sold as national property and later served as a factory during the 19th century. In 1976, ownership transferred to the town, which restored the castle extensively.
Since 1990, it has housed the municipal museum showcasing the rich history of Soultz and its notable families. The castle has been officially listed as a historic monument by the French Ministry of Culture since 1984.
