Verified Château de Grugnac

Sousceyrac-en-Quercy, France, France

Château de Grugnac is a historic fortified castle located in the hamlet of Grugnac within the commune of Sousceyrac-en-Quercy in the Lot department of southwestern France.

The castle was originally built in the 15th century by the Viscounts of Turenne and served as a defensive stronghold overlooking the surrounding region. The building has a rectangular layout, three round towers, a stone-slab roof, and a walkway with machicolations, giving it a distinctly medieval appearance.

Inside, a spiral staircase connects the floors, which were designed with large rooms used for living, dining, and receiving guests. Over the centuries, the château passed through several noble families and was damaged during the French Revolution. It remains privately owned today and is not generally open to the public.

Its façades and roofs have been protected as a French historic monument since 1989. Surrounded by the rural landscapes of Quercy, Château de Grugnac is valued for its well-preserved medieval architecture and its role in the region's historical heritage.
