Château de la Bâtie
Barby, France, France
Château de la Bâtie, also known as Château de La Bâtie-Seyssel, is a medieval castle located in Barby, near Chambéry in the Savoie region of southeastern France.
Built in the 13th century on a rocky outcrop at the foot of Mont Peney, it was strategically positioned to oversee an ancient Roman route through the valley. Originally owned by the noble Seyssel family, the castle evolved over several centuries from a fortified stronghold into a more comfortable residence while retaining its defensive character.
Its notable features include fortified walls, towers, terraces, and a historic chapel that contains rare Roman mosaics dating from the 4th century. Today, the château is recognized as an important historic monument and remains one of the most distinctive landmarks in the Chambéry area. Its dramatic setting, rich history, and well-preserved architecture make it a remarkable example of Savoyard heritage.
