Sauveterre-la-Lémance, France, France

The Château de Sauveterre-la-Lémance, also known as Château des Rois ducs, is a medieval castle located in the commune of Sauveterre-la-Lémance in the Lot-et-Garonne department of France.

It was built at the end of the 13th century by Edward I of England on a strategic route between the Périgord and Agenais regions. The castle played a significant role in the Hundred Years' War and suffered damage during the French Revolution when it was burned in 1789.

In 1936, the famous aviator Jean Mermoz purchased the castle after spotting it from the air, but it was abandoned after his death. The castle, along with its grounds and moat, was classified as a historic monument in 2003. Nestled on a rocky outcrop, it overlooks the valleys of the Lémance and Sendroux rivers and remains privately owned. Visitors can explore its historical ruins and enjoy the scenic surroundings rich in medieval heritage.
