Château du Burgstall
Guebwiller, France
Château du Burgstall is a ruined medieval castle located in the town of Guebwiller in the Haut-Rhin department of France. It was built at the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century and features remnants that suggest an octagonal structure, a rare design for castles of that era.
The castle was largely forgotten over centuries and was partially rediscovered in the 1960s during modern construction work. Locally known as the Heidenturm or "tower of the pagans" by the late 17th century, it carries a mysterious aura due to limited historical records.
The site is situated on private property, and although in ruins, it remains an important part of Guebwiller's medieval heritage, reflecting the town's long history within the Alsace region.
