Château Montbéliard Wurtemberg, also known as the Castle of the Dukes of Württemberg, is the most famous landmark in Montbéliard, a town in eastern France’s Doubs department.

Perched on a rocky hill overlooking the town, the fortress originated in the 10th century and served for centuries as the residence of the Counts of Montbéliard and later the Dukes of Württemberg. The castle played both defensive and residential roles and was gradually transformed from a medieval stronghold into a princely residence.

It remained closely linked to the Württemberg dynasty from 1397 until 1793, leaving a strong cultural and architectural influence on the region. Today, the château is a protected historic monument and a major cultural attraction. It houses museum collections and historical exhibits that trace the history of Montbéliard and its rulers, making it one of the region’s most important heritage sites.
