Cidade da Criança
São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, Brazil
Cidade da Criança, nestled in São Bernardo do Campo in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, holds the distinction of being the first theme park in Latin America. Originally built in the 1950s as a film set for the soap opera “Redenção,” it officially opened to the public in 1968 and quickly became a beloved destination for families.
The park spans over 37,000 square meters and features more than 35 attractions, including a replica submarine, roller coasters, a Ferris wheel, and themed zones like the Amazon area with a miniature Teatro Amazonas and the Madeira-Mamoré Railroad.
Throughout its history, Cidade da Criança has undergone several transformations, including closures and renovations, most notably in 2005 due to safety concerns. It reopened in 2010 with updated facilities and a renewed focus on family-friendly entertainment. One of its unique features is the “Prefeitura Mirim,” a program that allows children to participate in the park’s symbolic administration, fostering civic engagement and leadership.
The park also offers inclusive experiences for children with special needs, including free admission and priority access to attractions.
