Cousin Island Special Reserve

Off Praslin Island, Seychelles

---

Cousin Island Special Reserve, located just off Praslin Island in Seychelles, is one of the world’s pioneering island conservation reserves and a haven for wildlife.

Protected since the 1970s, the island was originally saved to protect the endangered Seychelles Warbler, whose population has since recovered remarkably. The reserve is home to large colonies of seabirds, several endemic land birds, giant tortoises, and rich native forests. It is also one of the most important nesting sites for Hawksbill Turtles in the western Indian Ocean, making it a globally significant conservation area.

Surrounded by protected marine waters and managed with a strong focus on conservation and ecotourism, Cousin Island Special Reserve offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience Seychelles’ wildlife in a natural, largely undisturbed environment. Its success in restoring habitats and protecting endangered species has made it an international model for conservation.
