Cytadela - Twierdza Grudziądz in Grudziądz, Poland, is a vast 18th-century Prussian fortress complex initiated in 1776 by King Frederick the Great after Poland's First Partition to secure the Vistula River crossing, designed primarily by Swiss engineer Paweł von Gontzenbach.

Construction of the central Citadel, featuring a distinctive claw-shaped donjon, bastions, ravelins, and partial tunnels (only 1,246 of 56,400 planned meters), wrapped up in 1789 at a staggering cost of 3.67 million thalers using over 130 million bricks, far exceeding initial estimates due to challenging terrain and high-quality materials.

Expanded with elements like the Rogowe Dzieło in 1788-1789 and later 19th-century additions including bridges and forts, it resisted Napoleon without falling and now serves as a preserved historic site open to tourists despite some military-restricted areas.
