Verified Dominion Arboretum

Ottawa, Canada, Canada

The Dominion Arboretum is Canada’s oldest arboretum, located on the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa, Ontario, at the edge of the Rideau Canal and Dow’s Lake.

Established in 1889, it covers about 26–35 hectares of rolling land and displays a large collection of trees and shrubs, with around 1,700 to 4,000 specimens adapted to the region’s climate, many of them dating back to the first plantings.

Originally created as a research site to test the hardiness of woody plants in Canadian conditions, it now functions both as a scientific living collection and as a free public green space, open from dawn to dusk with quiet walking paths, seasonal bloom areas, and special plant groups such as crabapples, lilacs, magnolias, and ornamental gardens linked to the nearby Ornamental Gardens and the Experimental Farm.
