Fernando de Noronha is a breathtaking archipelago located about 354 kilometers off the northeastern coast of Brazil, in the state of Pernambuco. Comprising 21 islands and islets, it is celebrated for its dramatic volcanic landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and extraordinary marine biodiversity.

The main island, which is the only inhabited one, covers roughly 18 square kilometers and is home to a small population that lives in harmony with the island’s strict environmental regulations. Over 70% of the archipelago is designated as a national marine park, established in 1988 to protect its fragile ecosystems, and in 2001 it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its ecological significance.

Fernando de Noronha is a sanctuary for marine life, serving as a vital feeding and breeding ground for species such as sea turtles, spinner dolphins, reef sharks, and countless tropical fish. The surrounding waters are among the clearest in the South Atlantic, making the archipelago a world-renowned destination for diving and snorkeling.

Sites like Baía do Sancho, consistently ranked among the world’s most beautiful beaches, and Baía dos Golfinhos, where dolphins can be seen daily, offer unforgettable encounters with nature. The island’s terrain is marked by rugged cliffs, hidden coves, and lush vegetation, including a rare insular subtype of the Atlantic Forest. Morro do Pico, a towering volcanic plug, dominates the skyline and offers panoramic views of the surrounding seascape.

Despite its remote location, the island has a well-developed infrastructure for eco-tourism, with sustainable lodgings, guided tours, and strict visitor limits to minimize environmental impact.
