Forstbotanisk Have
Charlottenlund, Denmark, Denmark
Forstbotanisk Have, also known as the Charlottenlund Arboretum, is a historic forestry botanical garden located in Charlottenlund, near Copenhagen, Denmark, established in 1838 under King Frederick VI as an educational site for botanists affiliated with the University of Copenhagen.
Spanning 3.5 hectares, it hosts over 600 species of trees and plants from around the world, many of which were originally planted to test their adaptability to Denmark’s climate for reforestation purposes, making it the oldest surviving forest botanical garden in the country.
The garden features a diverse landscape with winding paths, open grassy clearings, dense shrubberies, and solitary trees, offering visitors a peaceful retreat with seasonal beauty, especially during spring blossoms.
Managed historically by the university and later by the Danish Nature Agency, it is now maintained by Gentofte Municipality and remains open to the public free of charge, 24 hours a day, serving both as a living museum and a site of ongoing conservation and restoration efforts led by local preservation groups.
