Fort Frederick
Richmond Hill, St. George’s, Grenada
Fort Frederick, perched atop Richmond Hill overlooking St. George's Harbour in Grenada, was constructed by the French in 1779 and completed by the British in 1783 as a bastion fort to defend the eastern harbor entrance, though it never fired a shot in battle despite its strategic role in colonial conflicts.
This well-preserved site features multiple levels including powder magazines, gun batteries, water cisterns, and underground tunnels for storage, offering visitors 360-degree panoramic views of the harbor, Caribbean Sea, and rolling hills.
Later used during the 1979 Grenada Revolution as a military headquarters, it now serves as a popular attraction with a small entry fee, historical plaques, and photo opportunities amid its rugged stone walls and cannons.
