Fort Henry National Historic Site
Kingston, Ontario, Canada
Fort Henry National Historic Site in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, is a 19th-century British fortress built from 1832 to 1836 on Point Henry to defend the nearby Royal Naval Dockyard, the entrance to the Rideau Canal, and the strategic harbor at the confluence of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River.
Replacing an earlier War of 1812 blockhouse and battery that repelled American warships in 1812, the current star-shaped stone fort features bastions, casemates, Martello towers, and an advanced battery, designed as Upper Canada's strongest defense west of Quebec City, though it never saw combat.
Garrisoned until 1870 and later used as a prison during the 1837-38 Rebellions and World Wars, it was restored in the 1930s and now operates as a living history museum with reenactments, drawing visitors to explore its military heritage and panoramic views.
