Gavnø Castle is a stunning Rococo-style manor on its own island near Næstved in southern Denmark, first mentioned in 1231 as a defensive structure and transformed into St. Agnes' Priory convent for noblewomen by Queen Margaret I in 1398.
Acquired by Count Otto Thott in 1737, he extensively rebuilt it into its current three-winged yellow facade with lavish interiors housing Scandinavia's largest private painting collection, including restored 1750s living rooms like the Great Dining Room.
Surrounded by renowned gardens famed for tulip festivals, rare trees, a rose garden, and bulb displays, plus a historic church and brewery, it offers tours, adventure courses, and pirate-themed playgrounds year-round.
